The ATP/WTA Live Scores App has relaunched. Back in December 2020 the ATP and the WTA announced that the live scores app, loved and adored by fans worldwide, was being axed in 2021.
The app, which was a valuable asset even whilst on site at a tournament, originally launched several years ago. Its popularity increased quickly. For most fans, it was the go to place. When the announcement was made in December 2020 the response was, unsurprisingly, far from positive.
It meant, that from that point, fans potentially needed to visit at least three different sites to follow scores. That didn’t sit right and many complained. The original app was vital to lots of people, easy to navigate and very user friendly. It’s axing was bemoaned worldwide. Social media posts showed fans were outraged.
Seeing a gap in the market, a new app hit the field. TNNS Live, built by the fans for the fans (as it states when you open it). It did the same thing that the old ATP/WTA app did, even using the same colour scheme – a black background with white writing. Colour coded for the class of event on the main tour (silver for ATP 500’s, Purple for WTA events and blue for ATP 250’s).
TNNS Live also has the ITF scores, so everything is in one place, with the TNNS successfully picking up where the old ATP/WTA Live App left off. Fans across the globe have installed the app and use it regularly. But on 20th April 2022, less than two years since the original app disappeared, the ATP announced it was being relaunched. The new app, which has the same as before ‘ATP/WTA Live’ is now purple with white writing on the icon. The main background is white with black writing, but the colours of the events are the same.
Finally, fans have been listened to. The app is back, if not quite as before. Importantly, functionality appears the same, but the question now will be, will fans download the new (old) ATP WTA Live App, stick with the new TNNS app, or get both? At any rate, there should be room for both, and fans will be happy they have been listened to.
