The ATP Mexico Open in Acapulco has reached the quarterfinal stage. Eight men remain who wish to lift the trophy and take home 500 ranking points. For some of the men remaining, that would mean the biggest titles of their careers. For others, like 21-time Grand Slam champion Rafael Nadal, it’s barely a blip on the radar. Who do you think will win and advance to the semifinals? We share our thoughts.
ATP Acapulco Quarterfinal Predictions
Daniil Medvedev vs Yoshihito Nishioka
Medvedev left the Australian Open in emotional fashion after his loss to Nadal in the final, but it hasn’t affected his tennis at all. The Russian looks in brutal form right now, and the solidly consistent Nishioka has nothing that can stop him.
Prediction: Medvedev in 2
Marcos Giron vs Stefanos Tsitsipas
Giron has dropped off a bit from his impressive Grand Slam performances last year, but he has looked solid this week. Tsitsipas, meanwhile, is not fully consistent enough against elite opponents to win big titles. But the Greek is strong enough to not worry too much about this match.
Prediction: Tsitsipas in 3
Cameron Norrie vs Peter Gojowczyk
Gojowczyk consistently outperforms what should be expected of him, so maybe I’m going to underestimate him again. But the Brit is in the best form of his life and does everything that Gojowczyk does, only better. It’s hard to see Norrie losing.
Prediction: Norrie in 2
Tommy Paul vs Rafael Nadal
Paul looks solid and has a powerful game that can potentially frustrate Nadal, but the Spaniard looks calm and confident after winning the Australian Open. Don’t be shocked if the American makes a fight of it, but don’t expect him to win.
Prediction: Nadal in 2
