ATP Delray Beach Day 2 Predictions Including Thanasi Kokkinakis vs Sebastian Korda

Sebastian Korda in action ahead of the ATP Delray Beach Open.

The second day of the ATP Delray Beach Open will feature seven first-round singles matches and, as always, we here at LWOT will be offering our predictions for every match on the schedule, including Jenson Brooksby vs Stefan Kozlov. But who will secure their spot in the last 16 in Florida?

ATP Delray Beach Day 2 Predictions

Head-to-head: Mannarino 1-1 Broady

Veteran Frenchman Adrian Mannarino will look to continue his hot start to the 2022 season at the ATP Delray Beach Open. But his opponent, Liam Broady, is in good form himself. The Briton has once again made his way through qualifiers, this week as the top seed, to enter the main draw. The two lefties have split their two tour-level matchups with Mannarino picking up a 6-4 6-4 win in 2021 at Queen’s Club in their most recent encounter. This should be a competitive affair with players in good form at the moment: Mannarino is 7-3 in his last 10 matches whilst Broady has gone 9-3 so far in 2022. Long rallies will likely be the order of the day, but expect the Frenchman to pull this one out. Still, Broady could well be on track to have a career year on tour.

Prediction: Mannarino in 3

Jordan Thompson vs Mitchell Krueger

Head-to-head: first meeting

After starting the season out in rough form on home soil, Australian Jordan Thompson reached the quarterfinals of last week’s ATP Dallas Open. In Delray Beach, faces American qualifier Mitchell Krueger for the first time. Krueger, who has been spending most of his time at the Challenger level, worked his way through qualifying to make the Delray Beach main draw with wins over Dmitry Popko and Ernesto Escobedo, though Escobedo was forced to retire ahead of the decider. Concerningly, Krueger is just 3-13 all time in ATP main draw matches which suggests that this might not be his level. Regardless, don’t expect him to add a win to that tally on Tuesday. Thompson is a veteran player who has established himself as a tour-level regular in part because he very rarely falls short against players like Krueger.

Thanasi Kokkinakis vs Sebastian Korda

Head-to-head: first meeting

One of the best stories of the early ATP season was Thanasi Kokkinakis and Nick Kyrgios winning the Australian Open doubles title on their home soil. Kokkinakis’ career has been ravaged by injuries, but he did start his 2022 singles campaign out with a semifinal appearance in the first of the Adelaide 250s and then his first career title in the second Adelaide tournament. His opponent, 21-year-0ld Sebastian Korda, is making his first appearance on tour since bowing out in the third round of the Australian Open.

Korda enjoyed an excellent run at the ATP Delray Beach Open last year, announcing himself as a force by reaching the final before finishing as runner-up to Hubert Hurkacz. Both Kokkinakis and Korda are coming off of three week competitive match breaks so rustiness could be an issue for both, but expect the American to find his form quicker and enjoy a relatively comfortable day at the office in this first-round matchup.

Prediction: Korda in 2
