After some fantastic quarterfinals, the Erste Bank Open, ATP Vienna has some great matchups on tap for semifinal Saturday including Frances Tiafoe vs Jannik Sinner. Which players will advance into the final of this 500 level tournament?
Carlos Alcaraz vs Alexander Zverev
Zverev dominated their meeting earlier this year in Acapulco, the German needed three sets to edge Felix Auger-Aliassime and Alex de Minaur in his last two matches. Fatigue could factor in as Zverev hunts his fifth title of the season. Alcaraz upset Matteo Berrettini in a third set tiebreak, after beating Dan Evans and Andy Murray back to back (avenging a loss to Murray at Indian Wells). Alcaraz is a good player, but on this surface Zverev simply outguns him, this match could be closer than their first meeting but I expect the result to be the same. Zverev in 2
Frances Tiafoe vs Jannik Sinner
Sinner won both h2h meetings, Tiafoe has upset Stefanos Tsitsipas and Diego Schwartzman to reach this stage, the American qualifier is seeking his first ATP final appearance in over three years. He’ll be an underdog though as Sinner hasn’t dropped a set this week and only has one loss since the US Open, (lifting the Sofia and Antwerp titles, with three wins this week). Sinner is playing his best tennis of the season and would love to reach a sixth ATP final this season. I expect Sinner to step up and get the result he wants here. Sinner in 2
