The second night session of the 2021 Laver Cup brings out the stars. Team Europe’s Daniil Medvedev finally makes his Laver Cup debut while John Isner and Nick Kyrgios bring their combined 7-0 Laver Cup doubles record to the Boston court. We here at LWOT are offering our predictions for both night matches on day two. But who will earn their team the vital points on offer?
Laver Cup Day 2 Session 4 Predictions
Match Seven – Singles (2 Point Match)
Team Europe’s Daniil Medvedev vs Team World’s Denis Shapovalov
Head-to-head – Shapovalov 2-1 Medvedev
Denis Shapovalov leads Daniil Medvedev in head-to-head competition. Shapovalov has more experience at this event and brings momentum from last night’s stunning doubles turn-around win with John Isner. The Canadian should also have significant crowd support. However, Team Europe’s Daniil Medvedev is probably the form player in men’s tennis at the moment.
He comes into this year’s Laver Cup off his US Open victory, he is ranked #2 in the world and has posted a 47-10 record this season. While Shapovalov will battle fiercely, Medvedev just has too much right now. At the top of his game, he can neutralize anybody, including the expected frenzied crowd, and then use his fitness and accuracy to wear down opponents.
Prediction: Medvedev in 2
Match Eight – Doubles (2 Point Match)
Team Europe’s Stefanos Tsitsipas and Andrey Rublev vs. Team World’s John Isner and Nick Kyrgios
Here we are again. Team Europe holds the advantage in singles matchups all of day two in Boston.
Not in the doubles. Isner and Kyrigos finally match up as partners in Laver Cup doubles. Coming into the match, Isner is 4-0 lifetime in Laver Cup doubles, Kyrgios is 3-0. Both Team World stalwarts love this event and thrive on the doubles part of the competition. Tonight will be no different. Age and experience will overcome youth and singles skill once again. Look for Isner and Kyrigos to both serve big and draw in the loud Boston crowd. The power and emotion will simply be too much for Rublev and Tsitsipas neither of who have ever won a Laver Cup doubles match.
Prediction: Isner and Kyrgios in 2#
