WTA Cleveland Semifinal Predictions including Sara Sorribes Tormo vs Anett Kontaveit

Sara Sorribes Tormo in action at the Tokyo Olympics.

Three really one-sided quarterfinals and one high-quality battle at WTA Cleveland has led to an intriguing semifinal lineup. But who will reach the final of Tennis In The Land? We have both semifinals previewed and predicted right here.

The WTA Cleveland semifinals feature Anett Kontaveit, Magda Linette, and two others. Here is your look at all of Friday’s planned action.

WTA Cleveland Semifinal Predictions

Irina-Camelia Begu vs Magda Linette

Head-to-Head Record: Begu 0-3 Linette

The Romanian hasn’t reached a WTA final since 2017, which makes you wonder if she will get nervous if the finishing line gets close. Linette produced an outstanding display in defeating the #1 seed Daria Kasatkina, albeit helped by some unfocused play from the Russian. The Pole leads the head-to-head 3-0, however two of those matches were a week apart 11 years ago on clay, hardly worth considering at all. However, it is Linette that I favour to win this match. She has that excellent, confidence boosting victory against Kasatkina, a better win ratio on hard court than Begu and also her hold percentage is much higher than Begu’s on a hard court.
Prediction: Linette in 2

Sara Torribes Tormo vs Anett Kontaveit

Head-to-Head Record: Tormo 1-3 Kontaveit

Following a straightforward victory for the Spaniard, the one thing she would’ve wanted to see was Kontaveit and Siniakova beat each other to a pulp over three sets. That is, of course, what transpired. Kontaveit was able to keep her level high enough for the victory but Siniakova gave her a good workout.

Given that Kontaveit would be more confident of a deep run in New York, I wonder now whether that might be enough tennis for this week. Yes, she will want to win another title. But playing lights out directly before Flushing Meadows doesn’t seem like the smartest strategy. Sorribes Tormo will be highly motivated for this title and has yet to drop a set.
Prediction: Sorribes Tormo in 3
