ATP Winston-Salem Day 4 Predictions Including Frances Tiafoe vs Thiago Monteiro

Frances Tiafoe ATP Queens 2021

We have predictions for all of the third round matches at the ATP Winston-Salem Open including matches featuring Richard Gasquet and Benoit Paire. This set of matches features Frances Tiafoe vs Thiago Monteiro as players battle for a spot in the quarterfinals.

Pierre-Hugues Herbert vs Marcos Giron

Giron is 4-2 in recent matches and is looking to reach his first quarterfinal since Halle on the grass courts. The American has put together a career year while Herbert has been poor in singles this year with no notable runs since reaching the final in Marseille early in the season. Herbert is a capable player who can get on a hot streak, but Giron is playing better tennis and should have the upper hand. Giron in 2

Carlos Alcaraz vs Marton Fucsovics

The Wimbledon quarterfinalist Fucsovics is playing his first tournament since that great result and started with a win, indicating his recent shoulder injury may no longer be a problem. The Umag champion Alcaraz prefers clay, but is at a career best ranking and continues to improve his game rapidly. Fucsovics has played so little tennis recently it is hard to tell where his form is at, but given he the surface I’ll back him to win this match. Fucsovics in 3

Max Purcell vs Mikael Ymer

Ymer reached the quarters on clay in Kitzbuhel and Gstaad, and has more ATP wins this season than any previous year. The same is true of Purcell, who has beaten two fellow Australian as as a lucky loser to reach this stage. Purcell is playing well enough on hard courts that he can pull off a slight upset by ranking here. Purcell in 2

Frances Tiafoe vs Thiago Monteiro

Given his abysmal hard court record overall, Monteiro’s two wins in a row in Winston-Salem is impressive, Tiafoe just beat Andy Murray and hasn’t had an early exit since Washington though. Tiafoe is a far superior hard court player and will have the support of the fans. Tiafoe in 2
