Camila Giorgi vs Karolina Pliskova

Fans have been asking for years when Camila Giorgi will finally up her level to what we knew was possible. Well, it looks like that’s finally here this week. Giorgi has been keeping her game level, hitting the ball aggressively and cleanly, and has been playing more consistently this event than she has in years. Giorgi has had a tendency throughout her career to play well for a match or two at a time, tops. That’s not the case this week. It’s the biggest event of her career, and Giorgi has kept her game at its best the entire time.

Unfortunately for Giorgi, this final will likely be a bridge too far. Karolina Pliskova has finally found her top form after a few years of falling from the ranks of the elite. The Czech loves the American hard courts, and they suit her game perfectly. She moves better than Giorgi, she hits the ball harder than Giorgi, and she is much better than Giorgi at keeping her cool in pressure situations.

This week has brought us both a new Giorgi and a renewed Pliskova. Giorgi definitely can win this, and definitely can spur her on to the heights that so many have expected from her her entire career. But looking at this matchup, Pliskova has to be viewed as the slight favorite, at the very least.
