WTA Cluj-Napoca Semifinal Predictions Including Mayar Sherif vs Mihaela Buzarnescu

Mayar Sherif Australian Open

We have an incredible semifinal lineup ahead of us at the WTA Winners Open in Cluj-Napoca (sometimes called Cluj for short), Romania. Mihaela Buzarnescu is finally looking impressive yet again, after a promising career marred by injuries. This is the Romianian’s best run in a few years, as she just can’t seem to shake injuries. Meanwhile, her opponent is trying to win her first title and make more Arab tennis history. Andrea Petkovic ended Seone Mendez’s amazing run, and she will face Aleksandra Krunic.

WTA Cluj-Napoca Semifinal Predictions

Andrea Petkovic vs Aleksandra Krunic

Between injuries and the COVID break, Krunic’s ranking has really collapsed. The Serbian is far more talented than a World #268 should be, and her ranking should rise soon. She has also been playing well in ITFs recently. Petkovic, meanwhile, hasn’t looked great this week. The second seed was gifted with an extremely easy draw, and she’s looked anything but dominant against it. The two have never before met on the WTA Tour. And while Petkovic is ranked higher and has more career success, Krunic is playing better right now. Eventually, the higher level matters. I’ll take the Serbian to win.
Prediction: Krunic in 3

Mayar Sherif vs Mihaela Buzarnescu

Fans are in for an absolute treat in this match. I have no idea who will win, but we’ll get good tennis and some history regardless. Buzarnescu is far more talented, but we haven’t seen anything approaching her best level in years, sadly. The two are likely pretty even on level right now, but Sherif has been just as dominant against better competition this tournament. Ultimately, that’s what I’ll side with.
Prediction: Sherif in 3
