We’re nearing the business end of our week here at the ATP Mifel Open in Los Cabos, with Day 5 bringing on the semifinal round. As always, we here at LWOT will be offering our predictions for every match. Who’s going to the final?
ATP Los Cabos Semifinal Predictions
John Isner vs Brandon Nakashima
Head-to-head: first meeting
After a struggling win in the Round of 16, the second seed John Isner produced a more confident win in the quarterfinals, dismissing Alex Bolt in straight sets. The 36-year-old is looking to have a strong US Open series and a big result here would be a great start.
Isner’s semifinal opponent will be 17 years younger than him. The 19-year-old beat Jeffrey John Wolf and Sam Querrey before defeating the fifth seed Jordan Thompson in a third-set tiebreak after an almost three-hour battle, saving three match points.
Prediction: Isner in 2
Cameron Norrie vs Taylor Fritz
Head-to-head: Norrie 3-3 Fritz
Norrie is the only non-American left in the draw, but also the player with the most impressive quarterfinal win as he only allowed Ernesto Escobedo two games. The 25-year-old has equalled his best result in Los Cabos, a 2018 semifinal, but will be looking to go at least one step further this time.
His opponent, Taylor Fritz, is defending a final here from 2019. The American had a difficult opener against Illya Marchenko but followed it up with a straight-set win over Steve Johnson. Interestingly enough, Norrie and Fritz have faced each other six times already with their first match being in Auckland in 2019. All of their meetings have been on hard courts and recent, so their equal record shows just how much of a coin toss this match-up is.
Prediction: Fritz in 3
