The first round matches continue on Day 2 at the WTA Poland Open in Gdynia as we predict all the matches as usual. Ninth seed Nuria Parrizas Diaz will be seen in action and so will third seed Irina-Camelia Begu. The second article features the other four matches including Varvara Lepchenko’s match..
WTA Gdynia Day 2 Predictions
Nuria Parrizas Diaz vs Magdalena Frech
The 9th seed is very comfortable on clay and her title run at Nordea testifies that, where she beat players ranked above her on the way to the title. All in all, she has grabbed five titles so far this year, so she is an obvious favorite to win this match. Her last title in Bastad was on clay too. The young Pole, on the other hand, despite strong performances last week, is up for a formidable test against someone who is riding high on a 38-11 record this year. She should find it hard to come out victorious.
Prediction: Diaz in 2
Harmony Tan vs Amina Anshba
The Russian is a lucky loser but she feels at home on clay. Tan also plays well on the clay courts and she is the better performer at the ITF level. Expect the Frenchwoman to sail home in what might prove to be a tight match.
Prediction: Tan in 3
Anastasia Zakharova vs Ekaterine Gorgodze
This is the pair’s first meeting. Although neither of the two have had good results on the WTA tour this year, Gorgodze has much more experience on clay with a 65% W-L on the surface. The Russian is still 19 years old and might not find the game to edge past her opponent.
Prediction: Gorgodze in 2
Olga Govortsoa vs Tamara Korpatsch
The young German is coming off a great form at Hamburg and will be looking to take that form into the clay courts of Gdynia. Her W-L record this year is abysmal, though, at 4-10. Govortsova is the more experienced player and she is also comfortable on clay. Buoyed by her experience, and having played four finals at the tour level, she has better odds here. She also won their last encounter in 2020.
Prediction: Govortsova in 3
