We have all of your predictions for day 1 of the WTA Lausanne clay court tournament as the WTA Tour begins its post Wimbledon period in Europe.
Anna-Lena Friedsam vs Alycia Parks
The wild card Parks has found success at the ITF level but has thus far not had the opportunity to do the same at the WTA tour level, Friedsam only has two tour wins this season and isn’t at her best on clay but has plenty more experience at this level and should have an edge in this matchup. Francesca Di Lorenzo vs Stefanie Voegele
The veteran Voegele has been struggling but playing at home should be an advantage. Di Lorenzo has consistently struggled at tour level and it’s been a limited season for her as well. Voegele by a small margin is the safest pick in this one. Voegele in 2
Katarina Zavatska vs Natalia Vikhlyantseva
Zavatska hasn’t won a tour match since 2019 (0-9 since), Vikhlyantseva peaked in the top 60 in 2017 but hasn’t been a major feature on the WTA Tour since 2019. She’s 0-3 at the WTA main draw level this year and on a long losing streak. Either way a poor run of form will end here, though it’s hard to say which player has an advantage. Vikhlyantseva gets the narrow edge in my book. Vikhlyantseva in 3
