Qualifier Ludmilla Samsonova is into her first career WTA final, and is looking to upset the experienced and accomplished Swiss player Belinda Bencic. Here is your preview of the final.
Belinda Bencic vs Ludmilla Samsonova
It’s the first meeting between these players, Samsonova is a fast rising qualifier who will be in the top 100 for the first time ever after this run. Her path to the final featured wins against Noma Akugue, Ana Konjuh, Marketa Vondrousova, Veronika Kudermetova, Madison Keys, and Victoria Azarenka. Both Konjuh and Keys put up plenty of opposition, but Samsonova ripped past Azarenka in the semifinals.
Belinda Bencic is looking to add a fifth WTA title to her trophy cabinet, the Swiss player had a challenging time in her first match against Jule Niemeier, then won in straights against Petra Martic, Ekaterina Alexandrova in the quarterfinals was a three set match, and then Alize Cornet was defeated in straight sets in the semifinals. Samsonova is playing well, but Bencic’s resume gives her the upper hand in what should be a competitive final. Bencic in 2
