Day 1 action from the first edition of the WTA Bad Homburg grass court tournament features Germany’s own Mona Barthel vs Patricia Maria Tig on the match card. We also have predictions for matches featuring Andrea Petkovic and Rebecca Peterson.
Patricia Maria Tig vs Mona Barthel
Patricia Maria Tig leads the h2h 1-0, neither player has done much of note this year. Wins have been hard to come by for both players, and Tig has a poor record on grass. Barthel has found some success on the surface and once peaked at #23 in the world though she’s now well outside the top 100. Playing at home, Barthel should conjure up one of her better performances and get the win over the higher ranked Tig. Barthel in 3
Danka Kovinic vs Amanda Anisimova
Kovinic has put together a good season so far but has yet to succeed in her career on grass. Anisimova hasn’t had a spectacular season but has posted some success on grass previously and an upset looks possible here in the opening round. Anisimova in 3
Anna Danilina vs Misaki Doi
Doi leads the h2h 1-0 and qualified in Berlin. Danilina has struggled to win matches all season and has never found success at the WTA tour level. This should be routine for Doi. Doi in 2
Katerina Siniakova vs Varvara Gracheva
Siniakova is playing relatively well and has a credible record on grass, Gracheva is having her best year ever on tour but is new to this surface. Siniakova should start out with the advantage but we’ll see if Gracheva can player her way into the match. Siniakova in 2
