Monday at the ATP Emilia-Romagna Open in Parma, Italy was almost entirely rained out. As such, Tuesday’s Order of Play mostly contains Monday’s matches. We already predicted those matches between two articles. There are still three new matches on the schedule, though, so let’s take a look at them.
ATP Parma Day 3 Predictions
Emil Ruusuvuori vs Norbert Gombos
Emil Ruusuvuori was a rising star a few years ago. In fact, he looked like one of the top up-and-comers before the pandemic. Since then, though, the Fin hasn’t quite continued at the same level as before. Still, he’s a Top 100 player who likes the clay and is still improving, albeit slower than before. I like Ruusuvuori to move on, especially considering Gombos hasn’t been playing well, and reached the Main Draw as a Lucky Loser.
Prediction: Ruusuvuori in 2
Lorenzo Musetti vs Gianluca Mager
It is very easy to overestimate Musetti, which is a testament to how well he plays sometimes. The 19-year-old is only ranked #76 in the world. If that surprises you, it’s because when he’s playing well he looks like a Top 30-50 player. His older compatriot, meanwhile, is a pretty solid and consistent journeyman. If Musetti’s form is off then Mager should be able to take advantage. On talent, though, this match is Musetti’s to lose.
Prediction: Musetti in 3
Jaume Munar vs Mikael Ymer
Munar is a good clay court player, but he has a serious problem. We noted two years ago at LWOT that he needs a more attacking playing style, and he hasn’t changed since then. Ymer, meanwhile, is the epitome of an aggressive player. The Swede attacks nonstop, and he’s getting better on clay. Ultimately, that may lead into Munar’s style. But without strong enough counterpunching from the Spaniard, I think Ymer can continue his run from qualifying here.
Prediction: Ymer in 3
