We have predictions for all of the matches as mostly European based field battles it out on day 2 of the WTA Saint-Malo tournament on clay including Rebecca Peterson’s match vs Xiyu Wang.
Luisa Stefani vs Greet Minnen
Stefani is a doubles specialist who rarely plays WTA main draw singles matches the Brazilian, based in Florida, has achieved a number of solid results on the WTA doubles circuit but has never cracked the top 400 in singles. Minnen, 4-6 on the season, is still seeking a first ever ranking in the top 100 but does look well positioned to get the win here. Minnen in 2
Amandine Hesse vs Anna Kalinskaya
Hesse is a journeywoman who is 100 spots off her career high ranking and just 4-15 at the WTA level in her career, Kalinskaya is not great on clay but nothing about Hesse’s form this season suggests she’s ready to break out and win this match. Kalinskaya in 2
Rebecca Peterson vs Xiyu Wang
Wang has struggled this year while Peterson has only played a limited number of tournaments. Peterson is much higher ranked though and I would feel more confident about her chances, the Swede is one of the tournament favorites in fact. Peterson in 2
Elsa Jacquemot vs Jasmine Paolini
The teenager Jacquemot won the 2020 junior French Open but has limited experience at the professional level. Paolini’s 4-7 mark on the year is not world beating, but her experience should shine through in this matchup. Jacquemot doesn’t look quite ready for this level of opponent. Paolini in 2
