WTA Guadalajara Open Day 2 Predictions – Including Nadia Podoroska vs Giuliana Olmos

Nadia Podoroska French Open

The second installment of the Guadalajara Open will conclude opening round matches Tuesday, and the field of 32 will be culled to 16. It took Anna Karolina Schmiedlova only an hour and 20 minutes send the fifth seed, Nio Hibino, packing with a 6-1, 7-5 loss. Coco Vandeweghe’s comeback was cut short thanks to Mihaela Buzarnescu. Here’s a look at all eight of the Day 2 matches in Guadalajara including Fernandez vs Kalinskaya.

WTA Abierto Zapopan Day 2 Predictions

Catherine McNally vs Katie Volynets

Head to head: First meeting

An all-American clash puts teenagers Caty McNally and Katie Volynets on opposite sides of the net for their Guadalajara opener. McNally plays her best on the hardcourts. And, her solid doubles prowess makes her a dangerous opponent. In fact, McNally is also in the doubles draw playing alongside Egypt’s Mayar Sherif. That will serve to sharpen McNally’s already stellar net game. If the World #44’s serve is on point, this match will quickly pass Volynets.  What should be an easy day on the courts for McNally won’t last long. She’ll most likely meet the third seed Anna Blinkova in the second round.

Prediction: McNally in 2

Viktorija Golubic vs Nina Stojanovic

Head to head: First meeting

Viktorija Golubic will come into this match with her confidence level high. The Swiss entered Lyon as a qualifier and reached the final, losing to fellow qualifier Clara Tauson. Golubic’s defensive skills can frustrate opponents, giving them one more ball to play. Certainly, that will be key against the aggressive baseline play of Nina Stojanovic. If she’s at her defensive best, Golubic will force Stojanovic to go fo too much, too soon and the Serb will see her unforced errors mount.

Prediction: Golubic in 3

Greet Minnen vs Sara Sorribes Tormo

Head to head: First meeting

Sara Sorribes Tormo enters Guadalajara as the fourth seed, a great position for the World #71 who’s looking to build some momentum. The Spaniard was bounced out of the Australian Open in the first round, and she followed that up with a second round retirement at the Phillip Island Trophy. Quite a change from the 24-year-old’s quarterfinal appearance in January at the Abu Dhabi Open. Perhaps the fourth seed will build some confidence in her opener against Greet Minnen.

Minnen flashes moments of brilliance, but has yet to find the consistency to launch her up the rankings. A quarterfinal run at the Lyon Open was a bright spot in the Belgian’s unremarkable year.

Prediction: Sorribes Tormo in 2

Nadia Podoroska vs Giuliana Olmos

Head to head: Podoroska 2-0 Olmos

Nadia Podoroska starts her campaign in Guadalajara against Mexico’s Giuliana Olmos. The Argentinian has turned in some impressive results, reaching the Roland Garros semifinals as a qualifier. And, to prove it was no fluke, Podoroska reached the quarterfinals of Linz and the Yarra Valley Classic in 2021. Melborn had less favorable results. Podoroska will start strong in this tournament, opening against a qualifier. While it should be a fairly easy outing in her opener, Podoroska will face steeper competition as she moves deeper into the draw. But, this match should set the top seed in the right direction.

Prediction: Podoroska in 2
