A lot of surprises have happened at this year’s Roland Garros as plenty of the top seeds have stumbled across rocky roads. The non-seeded players are taking advantage of the unique circumstances of this year’s French Open. As surprises will keep on occurring, here are Monday’s fourth round women’s singles matches.
Petra Kvitová vs Zhang Shuai
The Czech has the slight edge on their head to head with three wins and two defeats. Last time they met was in 2018 Prague Open where Kvitová won comfortably in two sets. Although, the Chinese star is playing well in Paris surprising many people. Both ladies haven’t lost a set and it looks like an interesting match. Petra will look to dictate the game with her heavy hitting, while Shuai will answer back with her savvy shots. Expect a great match with both players playing high quality tennis. The winner will face Laura Siegemund or Paula Badosa in the quarterfinals.
Ons Jabeur vs Danielle Collins
This will be their first meeting between the two players. The Tunisian has surprised many people this year with her unique style of play. She is the first Arab woman to make it to the singles 4th round. Coming to this tournament she lost to Coco Gauff at the Italian Open. She comes with all the confidence in the world as she knocked out the eight seed Aryna Sabalenka in three sets. The American also comes with lots of confidence after defeating the 11th seed Garbiñe Muguruza in three hard fought sets. She hasn’t played that very well this year but can change all that with a win. Expect Collins to dictate the points with her heavy hitting while Jabeur will mix things up with her unorthodox game.
Fiona Ferro vs Sofia Kenin
This is their first meeting between the two players. The young French player is playing very well in clay. Back in August she won the Palermo Ladies Open where she beat Anett Kontaveit. With her being French, the limited supporters of fans have helped her boost her confidence in this Grand Slam event. Kenin is playing very well in the French Open and has the experience of being in tight situations at a Major. The winner will play either Jabeur or Collins in the next round.
Laura Siegemund vs Paula Badosa Gibert
The German is playing lights out tennis and has defeated three big names along her Roland Garros journey. Petra Martic, Kristina Mladenovic, and Julia Goerges have all been victims of Siegemund’s incredible run so far. She is great in clay and is proving it at the moment. The young Spaniard is in her first Roland Garros main draw and she is not disappointing. She has defeated Jelena Ostapenko and Sloane Stephens along her path. She is producing high quality tennis and this match looks entertaining. Both ladies will try to continue their impressive run and prove why they deserve to be in the quarter-finals.
Memorable Monday
All in all, these matches look like some entertaining ones filled with high level tennis. Each player is producing high level tennis and are demonstrating it in each match. A lot of drama and intensity will be in every match. Be prepared for some excellent and entertaining tennis to start of your week as more memorable moments will be occurring.
