Six qualifying spots are up for grabs in Kitzbuhel at the 250 level Generali Open on Tuesday. Here’s a look at four of those qualifying matches that take place alongside round of 32 main draw play.
Egor Gerasimov vs Max Marterer
The former top 50 player Marterer missed half of last season and was struggling before the COVID break. However, the German exhibition circuit helped his game. He’s won three matches in clay court challengers and won his first round qualifying match in Kitzbuhel though while Gerasimov won a match at the US Open but still had to take part in qualifying here. Gerasimov’s weakness here is he’s not a clay courter, Marterer is much better than his current ranking suggests and this match is primed for an upset given the surface. Marterer in 3
Federico Delbonis vs Jurij Rodionov
Delbonis is a solid clay courter and home player Rodionov has yet to crack the ATP top 150. Rodionov has a future in the game, but the time is now for Delbonis who should be set to win this match comfortably. Delbonis in 2
Laslo Djere vs Andreas Seppi
Djere, 11 years the junior of Seppi, is comfortable on clay and Seppi, now 36, is well removed from his career peak. Both players are capable but Djere should have enough momentum here to advance into the main draw. Djere in 2
Thiago Monteiro vs Yannick Hanfmann
Monteiro has a h2h win and is capable clay courter. Hanfmann did win the Todi challenger in August and has been in solid form, all be it against lesser competition. I’ll take the tour level Monteiro in 3 sets, but an upset wouldn’t come as a shock. Monteiro in 3
