Friday has some good matches to offer in the Women’s third round of the US Open. Here are the most attractive ones.
Varvara Gracheva vs Petra Martić
The young Russian comes from making a historic comeback by eliminating Kristina Mladenovic while being down 6-1, 5-1. The No.8 seed from Croatia comes from defeating Kateryna Bondarenko in straight sets. Gracheva has nothing to lose and a lot to gain in her first grand slam of her young career. Martić has a great opportunity to move forward and advance into the fourth round. They have played once before and Martić took the win in straights sets in the Prague Open.
Naomi Osaka vs Marta Kostyuk
The Japanese star comes a straight sets win over Camila Giorgi and looked fantastic. Although, her hamstring could be a problem so that is something to consider. The young Ukrainian come from defeating Anastasija Sevastova in straight sets. Kostyuk defeated Daria Kasatkina in straight sets as well and hasn’t dropped a set. Look forward to some heavy hitting from both players. This will be the first meeting between the two players.
Caroline Garcia vs Jennifer Brady
Garcia comes from defeating the No.1 seed Karolína Plíšková in an impressive performance. She comes with all the confidence in the world. Jennifer Brady is playing quality tennis and hasn’t dropped a set thus far. Look forward to a competitive match as both are playing great tennis. Both have beaten each other three times in their head to head matches, so one will take the advantage.
Jessica Pegula vs Petra Kvitová
Jessica Pegula comes from winning both of her previous matches in three sets. She is looking great and will want to defeat another European player. Let’s see if she is fit and ready for the heavy hitting of Petra. The No.6 seed has yet to drop a set in her previous two matches and will want to continue that run. The two time Wimbledon champion will produce heavy hitting and we will see if Pegula can respond. This will be the first encounter between the two players.
Magda Linette vs Anett Kontaveit
Linette comes from playing three sets in both of her last matches. She is seeded No.24 and will look to make a surprise in this match. The No.14 seed, Anett Kontaveit, looks great and is playing great tennis. In their head to head, Linette leads the series with four wins out of six. Look for some even tennis as both players are producing quality tennis.
Angelique Kerber vs Ann Li
Kerber hasn’t dropped a set yet and is looking like her old self. She looks fit and with great confidence. The 2016 US Open champion will want to take advantage of her experience and dominate the match. The young American comes from producing an upset by defeating the No.13 seed Alison Riske in straight sets. She will want to produce another upset, this time bigger than the previous one.
