WTA Monterrey Final Prediction

Marie Bouzkova vs Elina Svitolina

Head to Head: 1-0 Bouzkova

Marie Bouzkova won yet another match in straight sets as she beat Johanna Konta in two sets in the semifinals. Utilizing a very effective counterpunching style, Bouzkova has not lost a set this tournament. The consistency and competitive spirit that Bouzkova has shown this tournament has also been admirable.

Elina Svitolina is into her first final of 2020, only losing one game as she dismantled Aranxta Rus in the semifinals. Svitolina is relentless from the baseline, giving her opponents very small targets to hit given her speed and ability to turn defense into offense. Svitolina has progressively improved and her game really came together against Rus.

Bouzkova leads the head to head 1-0, although that match was when Svitolina retired in Guangzhou last season. Svitolina has a little more power than Bouzkova and hits with a bit more depth on her groundstrokes. Svitolina should be able to take advantage of shorter balls that Bouzkova gives her, while not only will Svitolina give Bouzkova less of these opportunities, but I’m not confident in Bouzkova’s ability to put these shorter balls away. However, expect Bouzkova to keep this match close, as whenever Svitolina has a slight mental dip, Bouzkova’s intensity and consistency will prove tough to handle.

It should be a battle, but Elina Svitolina will be the winner in Monterrey!
Prediction: Svitolina in 3
