WTA Acapulco Day 3 Predictions Including Heather Watson vs Kateryna Bondarenko

Heather Watson

The WTA Mexican Open in Acapulco round of 16 is set, here are all your predictions for this stage of the tournament including Heather Watson vs Kateryna Bondarenko.

Renata Zarazua vs Katie Volynets

The two wild cards will meet after strong round 1 wins. Zarazua upset a struggling Sloane Stephens, while Volynets beat Shelby Rogers. This will be a close, competitive match and both players are in rising form. Home cooking should favor Zarazua though. Zarazua in 3

Tamara Zidansek vs Kaja Juvan

The h2h favors Zidansek, who won a three setter in Bol last year against Juvan, Juvan is in flying form though and after her upset of Venus Williams looks set for a deeper run. Juvan will even the h2h. Juvan in 3

Tatjana Maria vs Anastasia Potapova

Potapova reached the quarters in St. Petersburg and has started well here. Maria looks to be at a disadvantage on form alone and Potapova should be a surprise this tournament. Potapova in 2

Leylah Fernandez vs Nao Hibino

Fernandez holds a 2-1 h2h against Hibino, both players are in some great form early in the season, qualifying for the Australian Open. Hibino reached the semis in Thailand as well and won her first round match against Rus with ease. She should be favored as Fernandez may be tiring after winning three straight matches (2 in qualifying and then round 1). Hibino in 2

Heather Watson vs Kateryna Bondarenko

The veteran Bondarenko battles one of the tournament favorites Watson who reached the semis in Hobart early in the year. A former top 30 player, Bondarenko came back to the WTA tour in September after having her second child (she also had a maternity break after her first child). Bondarenko is hard to predict but Watson is a deserving favorite. Watson in 2

Caroline Dolehide vs Christina McHale

Dolehide’s strong form should give her just enough to get over the line in a coin toss match. Dolehide in 3

Lin Zhu vs Katie Boulter

Boulter struggled but did put away her first round opponent, now she’s the underdog against Zhu. I’ll back the upset though. Boulter in 3

Sara Errani vs Xiyu Wang

Both players qualified but Wang’s form is better and she’s a worthy favorite. Wang in 2
