WTA Luxembourg Open Day 2 Predictions Including Andrea Petkovic vs Camila Giorgi

Camila Giorgi Luxembourg Open

Day two at the Luxembourg Open promises no shortage of intriguing action with both young talent and tour veterans set to take to the court at the Kockelscheuer Sport Centre. But who will advance?

Luxembourg Open Day Two Predictions

Laura Siegemund vs Marta Kostyuk

Head-to-head: first meeting

Marta Kostyuk impressed in qualifying, beating Despina Papamichail and Kaja Juvan to reach the main draw without dropping a set. However, Laura Siegemund will be her toughest test so far. The German is never an easy opponent to face, with a style of play that can be extremely disruptive, so it’ll be interesting to see how the 17-year-old handles it. But whilst Kostyuk may not have claimed a win on the main tour since May, the Ukrainian has looked extremely sharp so far at the Luxembourg Open and should be feeling confident. Expect her to edge this one.

Fiona Ferro vs Monica Puig

Head-to-head: first meeting

This season has been difficult for Monica Puig to say the least. She’s struggled to find form and parted ways with her coach Kamau Murray just before the US Open. But the Puerto Rican did manage to pick up a win in Wuhan against fellow struggler Angelique Kerber which showed she’s still capable of playing well at times. Fiona Ferro, meanwhile, has for the most part enjoyed a good year, but she has lost her last four matches. Puig, a former-finalist at the Luxembourg Open, clearly enjoys the conditions in the Grand Duchy and she should be able to ensure that Ferro’s winless run extends for at least one more week.

Elise Mertens vs Ysaline Bonaventure

Head-to-head: Bonaventure 1-0 Mertens

Ysaline Bonaventure received entry into the main draw after Kateryna Kozlova withdrew with a leg injury. But the lucky loser’s reprieve may not last long as she will face her compatriot, the top-seeded Elise Mertens, in the first round. Mertens put together a solid, if unspectacular Asian swing, highlighted by a run to the semifinals at the Japan Women’s Open in Osaka, and will now be looking to make a strong end to the regular season at the Luxembourg Open to make sure of her spot in Zhuhai for the WTA Elite Trophy. She will have to contend with the pressure of being top seed in Luxembourg, but the conditions suit her game and she shouldn’t encounter to many problems in this one.

Andrea Petkovic vs Camila Giorgi

Head-to-head: Giorgi 4-2 Petkovic

If this match is anything like their last meeting then it’ll be must-see. It is never clear which Camila Giorgi will turn up on any given day, but the indoor courts do suit her game well and when she is at her best, she is a force to be reckoned with. Giorgi won the title in Linz last year, but opted not to defend her title in Austria and so will surely be looking to recover those points with a deep run t the Luxembourg Open. Petkovic, meanwhile, had a good run in Linz reaching the semifinals before falling to eventual champion Coco Gauff. Expect Petkovic to carry over her good form here and end Giorgi’s challenge.

Prediction: Petkovic in 3
