Viktoria Kuzmova vs Katie Volynets
H2H- First Meeting
I didn’t expect to see American Katie Volynets as a recipient of a wildc ard in Luxembourg. She hasn’t had too much success professionally but has shown a lot of potential. Volynets also received a main draw wild card to the US Open but fell to eventual champion Bianca Andreescu in the opening round. Kuzmova hasn’t had a great season either, but I’d expect her to take full advantage of the advantageous draw.

Shelby Rogers vs Tatjana Maria
H2H- 1-1
Shelby Rogers has done well post-US Open, with a title at a 60K in Templeton, AZ. Tatjana Maria will be a tricky opponent as she makes you play, but Shelby Rogers has the potential to do well on these indoor courts. I can’t see Maria being able to keep up with Rogers in this one.

Kristyna Pliskova vs Aliona Bolsova
H2H- First Meeting
Aliona Bolsova had her breakthrough run this year on clay at Roland Garros, but she’s yet to prove that she can play on other surfaces. Pliskova, on the other hand, should do well here indoors. Pliskova started out well last week winning the opening set over Ekaterina Alexandrova before losing 3-6 6-0 6-1. This one won’t be as tough, look for Pliskova to move on to the second round.

Denisa Allertova vs Mandy Minella
H2H- Minella leads 1-0
Luxembourg’s own Mandy Minella has never done well playing in front of her home fans. Considering that she’s just 15-25 on the season, I don’t know if this one will go any better. Luckily for her, she’s facing Denisa Allertova who hasn’t won a WTA tour-level match all year. Something has to give here, but I’d give a slight advantage to Minella here to finally win a match at home.
