US Open Semifinal Prediction
Bianca Andreescu vs Belinda Bencic
Tracey:
This is an incredible match-up between two feisty competitors playing at the top of their game. All the shots, all the weapons, solid serves – there is so little that separates Belinda Bencic and Bianca Andreescu in terms of shot-making ability. The Canadian and the Swiss are each looking for their first Slam final, so expect a battle which neither Bencic nor Andreescu will easily yield. To predict a winner, it comes down to the intangibles. That lands squarely with the 19-year-old Andreescu. So much determination and fearless in the biggest moments. Andreescu will keep prodding until she finds a way into Bencic’s very solid game. I think we’re well on our way to a rematch of the Rogers Cup final.
Prediction: Andreescu in 3
Jim:
This should be a great match. Both women come into New York in great form, Andreescu particularly so. The Canadian has played just a handful of tournaments so far this year, but she has won two of them and looks to have a real chance of going all the way in New York as well. But she will be given a stern test by Bencic, who has begun to realize her formidable potential this season. It seems destined to be close, but Bencic has played the more convincing tennis this fortnight and should just edge it.
Prediction: Bencic in 3
Eric:
Andreescu has literally forgotten how to lose and has problem solved through all her matches so far at New York. Even though Bencic will prove tough as she has been playing well in her own right, but I would give the edge to the Canadian simply because she has been so consistent all year. I expect her to reach her first Grand Slam final, but certainly not her last.
Prediction: Andreescu in 2
Yesh:
Andreescu has been incredible this year. She just doesn’t know how to lose. Whatever she faces, she always has a way to fight out of it. From her title in Indian Wells to Canada, and the injuries in between, her season has been insane, but she’s come through it. At 19, she has no fear and somehow doesn’t struggle with nerves. That will serve her well against the talented Bencic, who is having an amazing tournament of her own.
Prediction: Andreescu in 2
