It’s no surprise that Saturday’s final is between Argentine Diego Schwartzman and American Taylor Fritz. The two of them were playing the best heading into the semifinals, which should make for a great final in Los Cabos.
Los Cabos Open Final Prediction
Taylor Fritz vs Diego Schwartzman
Schwartzman’s run to the final has been rather straightforward. The only time he seemed to be struggling the whole week was the second set yesterday against Guido Pella. Other than that he’s played flawless tennis in his first hard-court event of the summer swing. After not playing a match since losing to Matteo Berrettini at Wimbledon, Schwartzman might come in to Los Cabos a little rusty, but instead he has looked refreshed.
American Taylor Fritz is looking to win his second tour-level title in his career. He had a chance to last week in Atlanta but fell short losing to Australian Alex De Minaur in the final. It’s a little surprising not seeing Fritz playing at the Citi Open in Washington this week, but his decision seems to be paying off. Other than a come from behind win in the round of 16, his run in Los Cabos has been straightforward as well. Fritz was able to knock out top seed Fabio Fognini in the quarterfinals, before rolling through Radu Albot to advance to the final.
Saturday’s match will be the third time Taylor Fritz and Diego Schwartzman face off against each other. Schwartzman defeated Fritz in 2016 at the Antwerp Open, while Fritz got the better of Schwartzman in Monte Carlo earlier this year. It’s tough to go against Fritz here. The conditions seem to suit him perfectly in Los Cabos, and he has the ability to hit Schwartzman right off the court on Saturday. Schwartzman may well take a set, but look for the American to win his second title of the year Saturday night in Mexico.
Prediction: Fritz in 3
