ATP Hall of Fame Open Day 3 Predictions
Tennys Sandgren vs Adrian Mannarino
Head to Head: 1-0 Mannarino
Tennys Sandgren takes on Adrian Mannarino with a trip to the quarterfinals of the Hall of Fame Open at stake. After a run to the round of 16 at Wimbledon, Sandgren toughed out a tight three-setter in the first round of Newport. Sandgren struggled with the ball bounces in Newport, but ultimately persevered. Mannarino, who received a first round bye, picked up the first ATP Tour title of his career earlier this season on the grass in Rosmalen. Mannarino’s best surface is grass and he is looking for one more grass court success before moving onto the North American hard courts.
These two have played once before, earlier this season in Indian Wells, where Mannarino won in three sets. That was a very physical match, with Sandgren finding it difficult to hit through Mannarino’s defenses. Mannarino hits a very flat ball that will be skidding through the low-bouncing courts of Newport. Given Sandgren’s frustrations in the first round with low ball bounces, Mannarino will likely give him fits. Mannarino wins.

Ilya Ivashka vs Christopher Eubanks
Head to Head: never played
Ilya Ivashka battles Christopher Eubanks in the second round of the Hall of Fame Open. Ivashka, playing in just his second match since April, beat Bernard Tomic in straight sets to advance in the first round. He was great off of his first serve, winning 90% of first serve points against Tomic. Eubanks beat defending champion Steve Johnson in the first round, taking him out in two tight tiebreaks. Eubanks saved four set points in the first set and was the more clutch of the two players.
These two have never faced off before. Given how Ivashka was serving in the first round and that Eubanks has a huge serve, this match will likely come down to a few points in each set. Eubanks’ flat groundstrokes are very effective on the low-bouncing grass of the Hall of Fame Ope. This will be a very tight match, but given that Eubanks was able to play well against the defending champion, I think he edges this match out.
Prediction: Eubanks in 3
John Isner vs Kamil Majchrzak
Head to Head: never played
World No. 15 John Isner starts his campaign in Newport against Kamil Majchrzak. Isner, who received a first round bye, is just coming back from an injury, with Wimbledon being his first tournament since Miami. However, Isner still has a huge serve, which is difficult to play no matter his form. Isner also made the semifinals of Wimbledon last year, and has won the Hall of Fame Open three times, so he will clearly be comfortable in Newport on the grass. Majchrzak won in straight sets over Alastair Gray in the first round. However, facing the serve of Isner will be a tough test.
These two have never played before. Facing Isner’s huge serve on the unpredictable Newport courts will be extremely challenging for Majchrzak. He will have to be able to read Isner’s serve very well to get the win. While Majchrzak has had a good season, Isner’s serve will be too much for Majchrzak. Isner advances to the quarterfinals.

Ugo Humbert vs Ramkumar Ramanathan
Head to Head: never played
Ugo Humbert battles Ramkumar Ramanathan with a trip to the quarterfinals of Newport on the line. Humbert, who received a first round bye, had a breakthrough performance at Wimbledon, making his maiden round of 16. He lost that round of 16 match to eventual champion Novak Djokovic. Ramanathan, the defending finalist, saved a match point in a tight first round win over Sergiy Stakhovsky. Ramanathan is clearly comfortable playing at the Hall of Fame Open.
These two have never played before. Humbert’s passing shots will almost assuredly be put to the test, as Ramanathan will take the net as often as he can. Humbert’s lefty game is tough to handle on the grass, but it’s hard to pick against Ramanathan in Newport. He clearly understands how to handle the bounce there, which is a struggle for many players. This will be Humbert’s first match ever at the Hall of Fame Open, and Ramanathan’s experience at the tournament will pay off. Ramanathan wins.
