Just four men remain in the field at the 2019 Open Sud de France, two Frenchman, a veteran, and a surprise package. But who will make it through to the final?
ATP Montpellier Semifinals Predictions
Pierre-Hugues Herbert vs Tomas Berdych
The crowd should be heavily invested in this one, as their home hope Herbert tries to upset Berdych. Even though Herbert is the seeded player, with Berdych unseeded, it will be a major surprise if he is able to get the job done. The Frenchman did notch up an encouraging straight sets win over Next Gen star Denis Shapovalov in the last eight to reach this stage. Berdych took a very different journey, but eventually got the same result. It took the Czech nearly three hours to defeat Filip Krajinovic – saving two match points along the way. This will be the second meeting between this pair this year, with Berdych dismissing Herbert in the quarterfinals in Doha in January. Expect Berdych’s powerful hitting to be too much for the elegant Frenchman again.
Prediction: Berdych in 2
Radu Albot vs Jo-Wilfried Tsonga
Albot has enjoyed a fairy-tale run to the Montpellier semifinals and he certainly will not want it to end. The 29-year-old from Moldova has dropped just one set on his way to the last four, producing some exquisite tennis along the way. However, he will face his biggest challenge of the week against the rejuvenated Tsonga. The Frenchman needed to dig deep to secure his quarterfinal win over Jeremy Chardy, rallying from a set down to win in three. But the 33-year-old loves playing in France and he will have every drop of the crowd support. This will be the first meeting between Tsonga and Albot. Though Albot may have some surprises for the Frenchman, it is hard to see beyond a comfortable Tsonga victory.
Prediction: Tsonga in 2
