ATP Montpellier Final Prediction – Jo-Wilfried Tsonga vs Pierre-Hugues Herbert

The 2019 Open Sud de France final is set and, for the fourth time in six years, it will be two Frenchman battling it out for the trophy. One is searching for his seventeenth ATP title, whilst the other is looking to win a maiden singles title.

ATP Montpellier Final Prediction

Jo-Wilfried Tsonga vs Pierre-Hugues Herbert

Tsonga played spell-binding tennis at times this week. Despite being unseeded and ranked #210 in the world after a 2018 season hit by injury, his power has been too much to handle for his opponents. Two seeded players, Gilles Simon and Jeremy Chardy, have fallen at the hands of the 33-year-old and Radu Albot was no match for him in a one-sided semifinal. Tsonga has an encouraging 8-2 record this season and he will be confident about his chances of keeping his winning ways going in the final.

Herbert’s delightful tennis has won him even more fans this week, but most importantly it has allowed him to reach his third career singles final. Despite Herbert seeding and recent victory in the doubles at the Australian Open, many have been surprised by his run this week – especially considering the quality of his last two opponents. In the quarterfinals he dumped the talented young Denis Shapovalov out of the tournament and then backed that win up with a superb performance against the resurgent Berdych – winning both matches in straight sets. Herbert will now be looking to inflict a third upset of the week when he takes on Tsonga.

The two Frenchman have played twice before: both on hard courts and one of them at this very tournament two years ago. Tsonga won both matches in straight sets, including a 6-1 6-2 demolition job against Herbert in Montpellier. Expect more of the same as the world #210 sets his sights on yet another title.

Prediction: Tsonga in 2
