The second day of the Open Sud de France holds an intriguing line up of matches. Both of the courts in Montpellier will exhibit veterans of the game along with some home grown stars.
ATP Montpellier Day 2 Predictions
Benoit Paire vs Evgeny Donskoy
The home crowd will be delighted to see the talented Frenchman appear once again in Montpellier. Paire is on a three-match losing streak on the main tour, although he notched up two wins in last week’s Challenger event in Quimper. Donskoy will always be known as the man who handed Roger Federer his first defeat in 2017 after a sensational performance in Dubai. The Russian is dangerous and will give Paire a stern test.
Prediction: Paire in 3
Pierre-Hugues Herbert vs Denis Kudla
These two will conclude play on the second day of the Open Sud de France. It will be the pair’s second meeting on French soil, after Herbert got the better of his American opponent in the doubles event at Roland Garros. Singles-wise, it is all to play for. The Frenchman is ranked nineteen places above Kudla but both will feel anyone can steal this match. Herbert’s aggressive, net-rushing style will benefit him on the indoor courts in Montpellier. Mix that in with the home support and that may be enough for him.
Prediction: Herbert in 3
Tomas Berdych vs Matthias Bachinger
After a long injury layoff, it seems that Tomas Berdych may be getting back to his best. The Czech has enjoyed an awesome start to 2019 by reaching the finals in Doha and backing this up with a fourth round showing at the Australian Open. At the same two events, Bachinger failed to make it out of qualifying, highlighting the immense gulf in class between the two. Berdych possess a powerful, flat game which may prove to be too strong for the German.
Prediction: Berdych in 2
