We are about to set the quarterfinal matchups for the US Open. Eight women will compete on Monday for the final four spots, and we’re here to predict all of those matches for you. Predicting today are writers Tracey Essex and Utkarsha Mitra, along with editors Steen Kirby and Yesh Ginsburg.

Panelists Predictions US Open Day 8 Women’s Matches

Maria Sharapova vs Carla Suarez Navarro

Tracey:
When it matters most she can find her serve, but if she can’t clean up her unforced errors, Suarez Navarro can kiss her run goodbye. Sharapova improves with every match she plays, solidifying her return game, but still inviting opponents back in when her serve goes awry. I think Sharapova has it in her to tighten up those loose service games and move on.
Prediction: Sharapova in 2

Steen:
Sharapova hasn’t dropped a set this tournament and she has a great h2h record against CSN. This should be one way traffic.
Prediction: Sharapova in 2

Utkarsha:
Sharapova leads the H2H 4-1. She’s looked comfortable this week, and CSN has had to grind to get her wins. It’ll be interesting but I believe Sharapova has it.
Prediction: Sharapova in 3

Yesh:
Sharapova started off this tournament looking very rough, but she has rapidly improved. She should be able to overpower the Spaniard here to reach the quarterfinals.

Aryna Sabalenka vs Naomi Osaka

Tracey:
When your serve, return and groundstrokes are all firing, how can you lose? That’s the orbit Sabalenka is flying in, and I don’t think she can lose. Osaka is undoubtedly playing well and had a mere handful of errors when she double bageled Sasnovich in the third round. But Sabalenka’s power and accuracy will quell the wave Osaka’s been riding.
Prediction: Sabalenka in 2

Steen:
Osaka has been dominant this tournament. Sabalenka’s upset win against Kvitova should inspire her to compete but I can’t go against Osaka’s form.
Prediction: Osaka in 2

Utkarsha:
First matchup between the two promising youngsters. Both of them have looked very much at ease, but Osaka is currently on a different level altogether! It’ll be difficult ask for Sabalenka to get the job done!

Yesh:
These two could very well be the future of women’s tennis. I fully expect each of these players to win a Grand Slam someday. Osaka is more polished at the moment, though, and she has been more efficient so far in this tournament.

Marketa Vondrousova vs Lesia Tsurenko

Tracey:
All good things must come to an end, and I’d guess that’s what’ll happen on Monday for Marketa Vondrousova’s magical run. Tsurenko’s clinical approach will methodically dismantle Vondrousova.
Prediction: Tsurenko in 2

Steen:
Two surprise packets for this stage of the tournament. It’s hard to predict here but Tsurenko has better form and really hasn’t been challenged so I’ll back her.
Prediction: Tsurenko in 3

Utkarsha:
Another first-ever matchup between a teen and a tour veteran. Vondrousova has taken out Bouchard and Bertens, Tsurenko has taken out Wozniacki and Siniakova. Both ladies have played fearless tennis thus far so it’ll be an exciting match hopefully!
Prediction: Vondrousova in 3

Yesh:
Vondrousova has a ton of talent and is finally putting it all together. At this stage in a Slam, though, you have to go with the player who has barely less talent, but far more experience.

Madison Keys vs Dominika Cibulkova

Tracey:
Not a single oddsmaker is betting against Keys and neither am I. In truth, I didn’t expect Cibulkova to get past Kerber. Keys won’t make Kerber’s mistake of a lackadaisical performance punctuated by defensive play. Keys will play to win and she’ll be the one who’ll be on offense. Her power will hit Cibulkova off the court.
Prediction: Keys in 3

Steen:
Keys has never lost this matchup and Cibulkova has been pushed to her limit in three straight matches, meaning fatigue could be a factor.
Prediction: Keys in 2

Utkarsha:
Keys has never lost to Cibulkova, but Cibulkova’s form this week makes for an interesting matchup.
Prediction: Keys in 3

Yesh:
Keys reached the final here last year, but it’s easy to forget that based on her summer. Cibulkova looks like she’s finally finally playing her best tennis again. That level took her to an Australian Open final in 2014, and it will take her to the quarterfinals here.
