Laura Robson Unhurt After Being Caught In Tragic Vegas Mass Shooting

Britain’s Laura Robson has confirmed that she is ok on social media, after having attended the country festival on the Las Vegas Strip, where a gunman opened fire on the unarmed crowd. Robson had been playing in an ITF event in Templeton, California, where she had lost in the quarterfinals. She is currently ranked at World #246, and was taking some time off in Las Vegas after the tournament when the tragic event happened.

Having been incredibly successful at junior level, Robson has since struggled to replicate her juniors form on the senior circuit, and has often been plagued by injury problems. Now ranked at #246, she had decided to play in lower-ranked tournaments, such as the one in Templeton, in order to work her way up the rankings and get a good run of results together.

Robson said that although she had been further away from the majority of the crowd last night, her friend had been in the melee of people running away from the gunshots. She confirmed that her friend also left the scene unharmed.

The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) has confirmed 64 year-old Stephen Paddock as the man they believe to have carried out the attack. He is understood to have shot at the crowd from the thirty-second floor of the nearby Mandalay Bay Hotel. The LVMPD is currently searching for a motive, but the extremist so-called Islamic State group has claimed responsibility for carrying out the attack (even though there is no evidence to support that), which left over 50 people dead. Police also confirmed that Paddock himself had been found dead when they stormed his room as the events unfolded.

We at LastWordOnTennis.com would like to offer our sincerest condolences and prayers to the families and friends of those who were killed, injured, or lost loved ones in Las Vegas last night.
