USMNT Lineup Prediction for Trinidad and Tobago for July 2

usmnt lineup prediction

PREVIEW – Tonight the United States Men’s National Team play Trinidad and Tobago in their final group stage game of the 2023 Concacaf Gold Cup. A blowout win and they’ll likely win the group over Jamaica on goal difference. Trinidad and Tobago still have a chance to make the knockout stage regardless of what happens between Jamaica and Saint Kitts and Nevis. B.J. Callaghan’s lineup decisions could be critical to a big win and a favorable draw in the knockout bracket.

USMNT Lineup Prediction for Trinidad and Tobago for July 2

USMNT Recent Games:

Let’s not consider the Nations League, which was fantastic, but with a different roster. The Yanks were in a 4-2-3-1 against Jamaica but an aggressive 4-3-3 against St. Kitts and Nevis. Callaghan rotated significantly with only for players starting both games: Matt Miazga, James Sands, Alejandro Zendejas, and Jesús Ferreira. We’ll likely see a third different lineup tonight as Callaghan looks to keep guys fresh for the quarterfinal and spread the opportunity for minutes.

USMNT Absences to Consider:

Two players have already been confirmed as being unavailable for tonight. Alan Soñora is out with a right hamstring strain. Additionally, Aidan Morris has been allowed to leave the United States camp for personal reasons. Both players started the more difficult match against Jamaica. The Yanks could be thin at midfield tonight. Sands may have to start a third straight game. Cristian Roldan could get his first start of the tournament. Expect Đorđe Mihailović and Gianluca Busio to get some minutes regardless.

It’s unclear with the Gold Cup doing away with the six-player replacement policy if these roster holes can be filled or if the USA will just have a shorter bench going forward.

USMNT Lineup Prediction for Trinidad and Tobago:

Just like the last match, the USA need to win and pad the goal difference. Expect to see the most in form attackers up front. Callaghan could favor veteran experience given the magnitude of the game. They’ve been more attacking setup was in the 4-3-3 so that should be the formation tonight.
