CARSON, CALIFORNIA (January 12, 2018) – Goalkeeper Brian Sylvestre has signed with the Los Angeles Galaxy, the club announced today. Sylvestre previously was with North Carolina FC in the North American Soccer League.

Goalkeeper Brian Sylvestre Signs With LA Galaxy

Sylvestre is an IMG Soccer Academy product. He signed with Vancouver Whitecaps FC in 2011, but spent most of his time there with the residency and as a reserve player. He never played for the Caps in league play. He then spent some time with the Harrisburg City Islanders in the USL, before moving on to North Carolina FC (then, the Carolina Railhawks).

“Brian has a lot of potential and is a good addition to our depth,” said LA Galaxy Head Coach Sigi Schmid. “He has a big frame and we look forward to his development in our organization.”

He has been with North Carolina for the last three years and has made 48 appearances in the last two seasons. He made his MLS debut in 2015 while on loan with the Philadelphia Union. He had 12 appearances in MLS play that year, all of them starts. He played 1080 minutes and recorded five clean sheets.

What it Means:

Time will tell. David Bingham just signed with the club and is clearly going to be the starter going into preseason. Sylvestre has proven himself in the lower divisions but has not spent that much time in MLS. At the age of 25-years-old, he’s just about to come into his prime as an American goalkeeper. As long as his salary is in the five figure range, this seems like an economical flyer on a kid from a lower league. He’ll back up Bingham, learn a lot, and maybe make a few starts.
