CARSON, CA (August 2, 2017) – LA Galaxy II announced today that they have signed LA Galaxy Academy Midfielder Efrain Alvarez. Alvarez is just 15-years-old and is officially the youngest signing in USL history.

Alvarez joins Los Dos after finishing his souphamore year in the LA Galaxy Academy. He is the youngest player signed in USL history at 15-years, one month, and 15 days. The previous record was held by Vancouver Whitecaps Academy product Alphonso Davies. He was 15 years, three months, and three days old when he signed with Vancouver Whitecaps FC 2.
“Efrain is a landmark signing for this club and a sign of the quality coming through the LA Galaxy Academy. We will continue to position him in the appropriate daily environment as we look to progress his maturation both on and off the field. We look forward to his professional development as a member of LA Galaxy II,” said LA Galaxy General Manager Peter Vagenas.
Alvarez has spent time with both Mexico and the United States at the Under-15 level internationally. As of the time of this article, he has made no commitment to either the U.S. or Mexico at the senior team level. Currently, Alvarez is in Mexico training with the Mexico Boys’ Youth National Team.
The teenager will provide some needed depth for Los Dos who are near the bottom of the Western Conference in the USL. It’s unclear how many minutes or games the youngster will get. If nothing else, he’ll get to train with players older and more mature than him. That will help his development. Any minutes he gets at the USL level will help tremendously as he continues to develop.
