CARSON, CA (May 11, 2017) – LA Galaxy Outside Back Robbie Rogers has been put on the Season-Ending Injury list. This comes after Rogers had off-season surgery on his foot. There’s been some complications as a result of that surgery.

While there was some suspicion that Rogers might retire due to losing feeling in his foot for an extended period of time, that decision is being pushed back. With Rogers appearing to take at least several months to recover, the Galaxy have put him on the Season Ending Injury List.

Robbie Rogers is 29-years old. He has played in 184 games during his 10-year MLS career. He has won 2 MLS Cups, with Columbus Crew in 2008 and the LA Galaxy in 2014. Rogers has played 78 games with the Galaxy. He is under contract for this season and scheduled to make around $225,000 in guaranteed compensation.

It’s a bit unclear what this will do for the Galaxy going forward. As I’ve written previously, if the I’m reading the rules correctly, the Galaxy had until May 8th to sign the player to replace Rogers with him going on this list. The Galaxy haven’t announced any new signings, to it appears their chance to recover salary budget space from Rogers getting injured is gone.

It is possible, similar to the Portland Timbers, that that signing has occurred but the player will not be available until the summer. This they have not announced him at this time. There haven’t been any big rumors involving the Galaxy on this front, so this doesn’t seem likely.

In the meantime, the right back position seems up for grabs. Bradley Diallo has gotten two consecutive starts. He and Nathan Smith have both had some good and bad moments at the position. Head Coach Curt Onalfo will continue to give one of them or Rafael Garcia opportunities to play at that position.
