There’s no place better to get the latest on Army, Navy, and Air Force football than with Yards and Stripes.
Knights, Midshipmen Win Easy To Stay Unbeaten
Working solo this week as co-host Price Atkinson remains without power due to hurricane Helene, Steve Carney starts with a recap of the week 5 matchups. Army used their ground game to pound Temple into submission 42-14 in Philadelphia. We look at Bryson Daily’s big day under center for the Black Knights, as well as why pundits around the country have Army either at or near the top of rankings for the best Group of Six team so far this year. Steve then moves to Navy, who used Blake Horvath’s arm as well as his legs to carve out a 41-18 win in Birmingham over UAB to also improve to both 4-0 over and 3-0 in the American Athletic Conference.
Air Force, however, could not break its skid, falling in Laramie to Wyoming. Steve discusses the issues the Falcons are dealing with on offense, and how unusual a start like this is for a Troy Calhoun coached team.
Navy, Air Force Get Ready For C-in-C Series Kickoff
As Steve transitioned to the upcoming week of games, he started with the Black Knights, who head to Tulsa Saturday. The Golden Hurricane have yet to earn a win in-comference, and he believes the run game for Army should be overwhelming for the Tulsa defense. He also points out how the key receiver for the Golden Hurricane could be neutralized by the Black Knights defensive backfield.
But the matchup everyone has been looking for this week is the first leg of the Commander-in-Chief Trophy series, when Navy heads to Colorado Springs to clash with Air Force. Steve reminds the listeners that just because the Midshipmen have the advantage on paper, the game is not played on paper. He emphasizes how Army went to Air Force last year when the Falcons were 8-0 and vying to a Mountain West conference title and left with a huge win wheich sent Air Force into a downward spiral.
We honor another fallen service member in the Travis Manion Foundation Honor Roll, and Steve gives us his predictions on the week’s games.
