The “best of” season 7 part two of “Tell me a story I don’t know” features some fascinating guests. Take Joe Maddon for example, the first man the to mange the Chicago Cubs to a World Series title since 1908. But Maddon still harbors bitterness he was let go after the 2019 season. “I will defend the fact that we should have been left together longer. There’s was more chicken on the bone.” Maddon along with Tom Verducci authored a book last year entitled “The Book of Joe.”
Darren Pang is a premier analyst in the NHL and one of the shortest goalies in league history. But how he managed to get by at 135 pounds despite being listed at 155 is a hoot. “I cheated. I got drafted in major junior A and they did the first weigh-in. I weighed 128 pounds so I went down to the locker room. I put sand weights into long underwear and also put them around my ankle and I weighted 148 pounds!”
Not only does Howard Griffith of the Big Ten Network have two Super Bowl rings but he also shares the record for most touchdowns in a college football game. He scored 8 for the university of Illinois in 1990! He scored 4 in the 4th quarter. “I end up breaking the record (previously held by the iconic Jim Brown) and it was an amazing time. It was a special time, a special moment.”
Also featured in part 2 is Fox and Chicago White Sox play by play announcer Jason Benetti, who discusses how he’s navigated life with Cerebral Palsy. Also we talked with Don Levin, the owner of the minor league Chicago Wolves hockey team who muses about his life as an entrepreneur.
