With David Starr out on business this week, former NASCAR racer and country musician Chris Lafferty fills in as the driver analyst this week on “Let’s Go Racing with David Starr!” Additionally, long-time ally of the show and regular fill-in John Haverlin joins the panel.
The four recap Martin Truex Jr.’s popular Dover victory, where he ended a 54-race winless streak, and weigh in on the actions of Ross Chastain running into another competitor on the track.
Lafferty has joined the show before, in April of 2022, recapping the last time about staying busy on the road with his tour bus company that outfits professional musicians. This time, Lafferty joined the show from his home in North Carolina, with an acoustic guitar in the background and a black guitar case directly ahead of the guitar.
Lafferty shared what it is like to be on the road, now not as a full-time driver, but as a full-timer on the road with bands including Saliva and Powerman 5000. He shared the similarities of the racing business to the music industry, as well as one stark difference.
Lafferty joked that in NASCAR you have to dress up a little bit, whereas in the music business, he can dress “more like a bum.”
During the show, Lafferty pointed to the black guitar case.
“You shouldn’t ask what’s in the case,” Lafferty grinningly said.
“Now we have to know!” Aragon rebuked.
Lafferty, who earlier in the show played and sung a Beatles song on his acoustic guitar, proceeded to pull out an electric Gibson guitar that had designs paying tribute to the late Dale Earnhardt. Lafferty did not attempt to play music on the electric guitar.
