It’s the culmination of the craziest NCAA Tournament maybe ever, as the Final Four will play out this weekend with San Diego State battling Florida Atlantic and UConn taking on Miami in Houston for a shot at winning it all.
And, host T.J. Rives is ready to discuss that with guests and more on the latest “Last Word on Sports Media Podcast!”
First, before the college hoops, it’s a conversation on the mounting mess involving the bankruptcy of Diamond Sports and it’s deal with Bally Sports and many MLB teams who are due rights fee money for the 2023 season. Kurt Badenhausen of Sportico.com joins him to give insight into what the Bally’s bankruptcy proceeding means for teams like the San Diego Padres, Cincinnati Reds, Atlanta Braves and Tampa Bay Rays, etc., with MLB opening day.
Kurt has been covering the story for months and relays what challenges baseball has in dealing with Diamond Sports/Ballys and the individual team deals. Most importantly, how will teams be affected with rights fees not being paid?
Next, T.J. welcomes aboard radio/podcast host Mike Gill from the “Announcer Schedules Podcast” to discuss the exciting weekend of Sweet 16 and Elite 8 action that has set up the Final Four. They discuss the controversial ending with the foul call on Creighton in the loss to San Diego State Sunday. Was it the right call and what did T.J. and Mike think of the CBS crew handling the controversy and debate?
They further discuss whether CBS should consider moving one of the Sunday Elite 8 games to primetime AFTER 60 minutes for an even larger live sports audience that currently dwarfs all network TV prime time shows.
They also talk more on the NFL seriously considering “flex scheduling” of games from Sunday to potentially Thursday night for better match-ups and how much of a nightmare it will be for fans flying to see games and staying in hotels, etc.
