It didn’t matter who was in the second-place position to battle with Daryn Pittman during Monday night’s World of Outlaws Labor Day race at Grays Harbor Speedway.
No matter who it was, Pittman came out on top, collecting his first feature win in the series since he kicked off the year with back-to-back victories at Volusia in February.

“It’s not how you start the year and it’s not how you start these races, it’s how you finish,” Pittman said on the DirtVision broadcast following the race. “There’s been no quit in this Roth Motorsports team. They just keep working hard.”
Pittman led nearly all 30 laps of the feature after getting by Shane Stewart early on in a battle for the lead.
Later in the race, Stewart would have to concede his position after his car lost power steering. He would finish 16th out of 17 cars.
Pittman would then be put up against Carson Macedo on the final restart with 11 laps to go, where he would choose the inside despite riding around the top of the track.
“I gave away a chance at $40,000 at Jackson by choosing the outside,” Pittman said on the broadcast. “‘The next race I’m [not] going lose by choosing wrong and going on the inside’ and I told myself that.”
Pittman elected the inside lane and was able to work with Macedo right around him.
The two almost touched coming out of turn four on the first lap of the final run, but Pittman was able to establish the position and get by for the win.
“The first restart against [Stewart]… I never saw him, and then yeah [Macedo] scared the crap out of me on that last one,” Pittman said. “There was good moisture on the bottom of [turn] four, you just had to be really low and kind of wait for it. I thought, ‘as long as I could get there first.’ He had a lot of momentum on me and luckily I just had enough room to squeeze by in [turns] one and two.”
Donny Schatz – who has won four of the past six races at Grays Harbor – got by Macedo for second to beat out top points standings threats David Gravel (finished fourth) and Brad Sweet (seventh).
The series will return to the track right away in a couple of days as they take to Willamette Speedway in Lebanon, Oregon on Wednesday for another $8,000-to-win battle.
