MP Motorsport Set Sights on Championship Lead at Silverstone

At Silverstone, MP Motorsport look to turn up the pressure on Campos Racing for a battle in the Teams’ Championship.

MP Motorsport To Continue the Battle at Silverstone

MP Motorsport currently sit in second place in the Teams’ championship, only 20 points behind Campos Racing. At Silverstone, the Dutch team will aim to close the gap and gain the lead before the two-week gap; however, to do so, both drivers must perform at their best.

After closing last year’s championship in third position, MP Motorsport chose to continue with the same lineup of 2024’s last rounds.

Oliver Goethe and Richard Verschoor were therefore rewarded with another season with the team, which saw them as the perfect pair to achieve the maximum possible results. Since the beginning of the year, the team has experienced a double season in their garage.

On one side, there is Richard Verschoor, an experienced driver in the series who wants to prove he has what it takes to finally take that infamous title.

On the other side, we have Oliver Goethe, a Red Bull Junior who took Franco Colapinto‘s place in MP Motorsport last year when Colapinto moved up to Formula 1.

The young driver is still working on adapting to the car, having only achieved two points finishes since the start of the season.

MP Motorsport face a double challenge at Silverstone and throughout this season – support Richard Verschoor in winning the title and assist Oliver Goethe in finding the right performance.

Richard Verschoor To Continue the Positive Trend at Silverstone

In his fifth season in Formula 2, Richard Verschoor sits currently at the top of the championship with an advantage of 24 points over Alex Dunne.

The Dutch driver takes advantage of Dunne’s disqualification to increase his lead, arriving at Silverstone feeling more secure than before.

Verschoor’s season started strong, with a win in the Feature Race in Jeddah after a weekend where he proved to be one of the fastest drivers in the circuit.

This allowed him to arrive at Imola as championship leader but with a very short margin. This is why, after a difficult Italian weekend due to health problems, he lost the leadership straight away.

He made progress in Catalunya, where he earned a podium finish in the Sprint Race and took the victory on Sunday.

Following that, he secured another win last week in Austria, increasing his tally to three victories compared to Alex Dunne’s 2, with Dunne having won races in Bahrain and Imola.

At Silverstone, the Dutch driver will try to maintain the positive trend and keep his leadership safe.

Oliver Goethe in Search of Better Pace in the Car

The Red Bull junior driver is still struggling with pace and performance this season. His only points finishes are in Bahrain and Imola, which is why he sits in fifteenth place in the Drivers’ Championship.

In Austria, he had to retire after an accident on lap 25, which caused his car to briefly lift off the ground. However, as he told on social media, Oliver Goethe feels the car has the speed needed in order to fight, given also the results of his teammate.

In 2023, while racing with Trident in Formula 3, the German achieved a win at Silverstone and a sixth place in the feature race.
