Recently announced Virtuosi driver Amaury Cordeel may have to wait a bit longer for his debut after he was issued a six-month driving ban.
Just this week Amaury Cordeel was announced as part of Virtuosi Racing’s lineup for the 2023 season alongside Jack Doohan. However, Cordeel may have to wait until May after receiving a six-month driving ban. He filmed himself going 179 kmh in a 50 kmh zone on TikTok in December 2020. Cordeel has also been given a €3,600 fine.
Although it is a driving ban, it is unsure whether it will affect his time in a racecar or just apply to roadside cars. The twenty-year-old driver filmed himself speeding in his hometown of Temse nearly two years ago.
Amaury Cordeel, the Belgian driver who was banned from the Silverstone round of F2 after accruing 12 penalty points, has now been sentenced to a 6 month driving ban for an incident in Dec 2020, posting a video on TikTok showing him driving at 179 km/h in his hometown of Temse pic.twitter.com/fWYH1jsDxm

Bruno Michel (CEO of Formula 2 and 3) has commented,
“It’s probably something that will have to be discussed with the FIA, to see how to deal with it and whether to do anything special.”
Cordeel is a driver known to have a history with respect to rules. At the beginning of the 2022 season, he was issued a ten-place grid penalty and four penalty points for failing to slow down for red flags during qualifying in Saudi Arabian. He was later penalized twice for speeding in the pit lane during the Spanish Grand Prix and issued another five penalty points. Eventually, Cordeel was given a one-race ban and forced to miss the British Grand Prix.
In March 2021, Cordeel also filmed himself on TikTok speeding down a Flemish motorway but later claimed he wasn’t driving. He has also been charged with speeding on two separate occasions.
Cordeel recently signed for Infinity Sports Management, but with this new revelation, will there be trouble with his management team? If the six-month ban does affect Cordeel’s seat, Virtuosi will have to opt for a replacement. Given Cordeel’s off-track antics could they decide on a permanent replacement instead?
