PREMA Powerteam have announced that Frederick Vesti will join them for the 2023 Formula 2 season. He will team up with F3’s Ollie Bearman.

PREMA Powerteam announced that Frederick Vesti will be racing for them in his second season of Formula 2. Making his debut with ART Grand Prix last year, the Mercedes Academy driver will look for a more successful 2023 campaign. Vesti is the fifth driver to be announced for the F2 grid next season.

Vesti’s 2022

Having won the 2019 Formula Regional European Championship with PREMA, Vesti graduated to Formula 3 with them in 2020. He finished fourth in the championship with three wins and four podiums but elected to stay in Formula 3 for another season, moving to ART Grand Prix.

The same year, Vesti was announced as a member of the Mercedes Academy and would go on to finish fourth once again in 2021 after taking one win and five podiums.

This past season, Vesti made his Formula 2 debut with ART Grand Prix and finished ninth in the standings, with one win and nine podiums. Despite the rookie’s success with the French team, Vesti has decided to rejoin the Italian team and race for PREMA in 2023. He’ll be racing alongside Formula 3 rookie Ollie Bearman.

Following the announcement, Vesti stated:

“To join PREMA Racing for the 2023 Formula 2 season is great news for me. I have known PREMA since 2019 when we won the Formula Regional European Championship together. PREMA is an amazing place to be at and in my opinion gives me the best opportunity to fight for the F2 title in 2023! I have big dreams and PREMA is the team I believe that I can achieve those dreams with. There is no doubt that 2023 F2 is going to be incredibly close, but I will give my everything to be fast and consistent throughout the season.”

Rene Rosin (Team Principal at PREMA) added:

“We are delighted to welcome Frederik back. He is a quick and hard-working driver, which we already had the chance to appreciate in 2019 and 2020. We are obviously looking forward to joining forces again and seeing what we will be able to achieve together next season. With his skills and the experience, he has matured. We expect him to be a contender and we are determined to support him the best way we can.”

2023 Driver Lineup

Vesti’s announcement also begs the question of where PREMA’s 2022 driver Jehan Daruvala will be going following a brand-new lineup for the 2023 season. It was a difficult season finishing fourth, after claiming back-to-back titles in 2020 and 2021. Can Vesti and Bearman bring them back to glory?
