Campos Racing has announced that their 2022 Formula 2 driver Ralph Boschung will retain his seat for the 2023 campaign.

Twenty-five-year-old Ralph Boschung has announced that he will be remaining in Formula 2. Having appeared in the past six seasons, he has the unique honor of appearing in ever season in the current F2 format. This will be his fifth driving for Campos Racing. Boschung is the third Formula 2 driver to be announced for next season.

Unique History in F2

Boschung made his Formula 2 debut with Campos in 2017 finishing 19th with eleven points. The following season he moved to MP Motorsport where he finished 18th followed by 19th in 2019 with Trident. Boschung’s 2019 season was disastrous as he only finished the season with three points. It looked like he would miss out on the 2020 season until a late shuffle allowed him to continue his streak. When Lewis Hamilton was forced out of the F1 Bahrain Grand Prix in 2022 due to COVID-19, George Williams stepped into the Mercedes, moving Jack Aitken into the Williams, and Boschung into the available F2 seat.

In 2021, Boschung finally picked up his maiden podium at the Saudi Arabian Grand Prix and finished tenth in the Championship, his best finish in Formula 2. Boschung’s performance helped him retain his seat for the 2022 season where he has already picked up two podiums and is currently tied with Clement Novalak for 13th in the standings.

Boschung’s 2022 season started off well, picking up two fourth-place finishes as well as the podiums before he was diagnosed with facet syndrome (arthritis of the spine) and was forced to withdraw mid-season. Once his health improved, Boschung returned at Spa and is looking for a strong finish in Abu Dhabi.

Besides his longevity in the series, Boschung may be best known as the driver who handles all of his own funding and sponsorships. Often with unique designs on his F2 cars, Boschung has taken the road less traveled to remain in the series.

Following the announcement, Boschung stated:

“I am grateful to have the opportunity to continue with Campos in F2 next year. With 2021 being my only Full F2 season, this year started so well but with the neck injury, my whole season was compromised. I have unfinished business and will want to prove that together with Campos Racing we can achieve consistently very good results”

Adrien Campos (Team Principal of Campos Racing) added:

“We are delighted to continue working with Ralph (Boschung), because after the health issues encountered, all we have a pending matter. Our goals together are still to be fulfilled and it will be our mission for next year, in which we expect to fight for top honours on a regular basis.”

2023 Driver Lineup

With one round remaining, teams have been quick to announce their drivers for the 2023 season. That is now two confirmations in the span of two days. Boschung becomes the second driver returning for the 2023 season.
