The 2024 Formula One Season was one of the most competitive seasons in recent history, with several unexpected twists and victories and new broken records.
Seven drivers have won several races this season, definitively breaking Red Bull’s dominance.
A Season Full of Broken Records
Over 30 records were broken this year, underlining a season full of epic performances by some drivers.
Well-known drivers continued to enrich their trophy shelves.
Other drivers, on the other hand, broke new negative records highlighting the lack of their season.
Records Broken by Max Verstappen
For the fourth consecutive year, after a season of ups and downs, Max Verstappen is the world champion. Thus, joining a prestigious group of only six drivers to have won four or more world championships.
- 7 titles – Michael Schumacher & Lewis Hamilton
- 5 titles – Juan Manuel Fangio
- 4 titles – Alain Prost, Sebastian Vettel and Max Verstappen.
On top of that, in this very long season, Verstappen has consolidated new records. He now holds the top two places for the most consecutive wins in a season, with 10 and 9.
He occupies first, second and third place in the overall ranking of drivers with the most championship points earned in a season. His 2023 ride with 575 points is in first place, the 2022 ride is in second place with 454 points and the 2024 ride is in third place with 437 points.
Verstappen and Valtteri Bottas have both entered the top four drivers with the most consecutive starts. The Red Bull driver is currently in third place with 209 consecutive race starts, and the Finn just behind with 208.
Verstappen has equalled Ayrton Senna‘s record from the 1980s, and they now have the same number of consecutive pole positions; eight.
Analysing in detail, Verstappen’s eight consecutive pole positions started with the Abu Dhabi Grand Prix in 2023 and ended with the Emilia Romagna Grand Prix in 2024.
In the overall ranking of drivers with the most consecutive race finishes, he is in second place. Verstappen has 43 consecutive finishes. After him, in third place is Lewis Hamilton with 48 consecutive race finishes.

Records Broken by Lewis Hamilton
Lewis Hamilton has already collected several records. Although his season has been a rather poor one, he has nevertheless continued to add to his bag of records.
Hamilton’s triumph at the 2024 British Grand Prix marked his ninth victory at the event. Thus, breaking his tie with Schumacher for the most wins at a single circuit.
He is also the driver with the most seasons with one race won, overtaking Michael Schumacher (16).
On top of that, he extended his career points record. At the end of the 2023 season, Hamilton had 4639.5 points and at the end of the 2024 season, 4862.5 points.
The 2024 season was his 17th season with a fastest lap. It was also his 15th consecutive season with a fastest lap, equaling Schumacher.
Hamilton also extended the record for most consecutive seasons with a podium finish, at 18 with the record tracking back to his rookie season.
The Brit also extended his record with the greatest number of race appearances and starts with a single-engine manufacturer. The total is 356.
His most prideful records are for most race wins and most podiums, of which he both extended this year. He has the most podiums with 202, and race wins with 105.

Records Broken by Fernando Alonso
In this 2024 season, Fernando Alonso has also been able to collect new records in what is his 21st season – a record in itself as the driver with the most seasons in F1 with race starts.
The Spaniard is also the driver with the most races completed having currently completed 324 races.
He is the driver with the longest gap between his first career start and his last career start: currently – 23 years, 9 months and 4 days.
In addition to this, Alonso has extended his record as the driver with the most career entries (404). Starts (401), kilometres covered (109,237) and laps completed (21,827).
Other Records Broken in the 2024 Season
Lando Norris won a Grand Prix after 109 races without a victory. This puts him in ninth place as the driver with the most races before his first win.
The McLaren driver is also tied at five for the record for the most podium finishes (15) before their first win.
Kevin Magnussen extended his record as the driver with the most races without leading a lap (185).
Esteban Ocon achieved the fastest lap of a race in his career at the United States GP after 151 races.
Lance Stroll broke the record previously held by Johnny Herbert for the most race starts without a fastest lap (166).
The 2024 season became the first season in F1 history with the most drivers winning two or more races. Seven drivers won at least two races each this season – an important factor underlining the official break from Red Bull’s dominance.
