Aston Martin’s fall from grace since the beginning of 2023 is well-documented. The British team have steadily fallen down the pecking order, with the AMR24 nowhere near capable of fighting at the front. To try and reverse their decline, Aston Martin have brought a large upgrade package this weekend.
Aston Martin upgrades will determine their trajectory for 2025
For most of the last twelve months, Aston Martin have tried to fix their own mistakes. The updates introduced at last year’s Canadian GP completely derailed their development, sending their engineers to follow the wrong path.
Rather than unlocking more performance, the upgrades introduced by Lawrence Stroll’s personnel have created headaches in recent months.
Even this season, the update package brought to Imola sent the AMR24 further in the wrong direction.
Aston Martin were regularly competing for the top 6 positions to start the season, with Fernando Alonso in particular making himself a nuisance for the top teams in qualifying.
However, their first set of modifications to the AMR24 were a failure – worsening pure performance and failing to improve the car’s already underwhelming race pace.
A completely new philosophy moving forward
Although signing Adrian Newey last month was a huge boost for the team, his impact won’t be felt until 2026. Because of this, solutions must be found in the next few months to prevent another painful campaign in 2025.
Images of the newly upgraded AMR24 have provided some insight into the changes introduced by the British team.
A new sidepod design will feature this weekend, marking a significant change to what Aston Martin have used this season. In fact, the new sidepod configuration is reminiscent of Aston’s design from the beginning of 2023.
There are obviously differences in shape compared to the early AMR23, but the Silverstone-based team has clearly retraced its steps to get back on track.
In addition to this, modifications to the floor are expected this weekend. Other minor changes will also debut this weekend, setting the foundations of Aston Martin’s path for 2025.
Aston’s personnel are quietly confident that, unlike previous occasions, their wind tunnel data will correlate accurately to the track.
Still, the precision of their tools can only be verified when the AMR24 begins circulating around the Circuit of the Americas.
