Formula E teams announced the drivers chosen for the Rookie Test that is going to take place in Rome this Friday.
Between them, Barbadian Formula 2 driver Zane Maloney will participate in the test with Andretti. Maloney, who isn’t even 20 years old, is a Red Bull Junior Team member, the academy dedicated to young talents. The driver has already driven an Andretti car in Berlin, during the first Rookie Test of the season, and in Rome will again represent the American team with due to team principal Roger Griffiths being amazed by his performance:
“Zane Maloney’s performance during the previous Rookie Test in Berlin left a lasting impression on the Avalanche Andretti Formula E team. We were impressed by his approach, his maturity, and the pace he showed. Therefore, we are very happy to announce that we are entrusting the No. 36 car to Zane during the Rookie session in Rome”.
We are pleased to confirm that @Formula2’s Zane Maloney will take part in our Free Practice 0 session ahead of the #RomeEPrix ⚡️

Maloney, the vice-champion of Formula 3 2022, debuted in Formula 2 with Trident during the final round of last season. He currently drives for Carlin and is ninth in the championship standings. The opportunity to drive a Formula E car could see Maloney leave the feeder series for the electric championship for next year, just like Dan Ticktum did before him, and maybe have an opportunity to race for the iconic name of Andretti.
The other drivers announced that will participate in the Test are:
- DANIIL KVYAT – NIO 333
- ADRIEN TAMBAY – ABT CUPRA
- JEHAN DARUVALA – MAHINDRA
- SHELDON VAN DER LINDE – JAGUAR
