F3: Melbourne Predictions and How to Watch

Gabriel Bortoleto during F3 pre-season testing.

The second round of the F3 championship begins as we head down under to the iconic Albert Park for the first time.

As we enter the second round of the championship, rookies Gabriel Borteleto, Oliver Goethe, and Dino Beganovic are separated by four points. However, this weekend won’t be an easy feat for the 30 drivers as they enter a brand-new venue in Albert Park in Melbourne, Australia. Pepe Marti is the highest-ranked returnee as he enters his second season with Campos Racing and sits fourth – seven points behind Bortoleto.

New Track

Formula 3 will be making its debut alongside Formula 2. With only 12 corners and 2 DRS zones and a length of 5.27 km, it’s one of the shorter tracks on the calendar. Drivers will be looking to utilize their 45-minute practice session as they build data. The Sprint Race will be 20 laps while the Feature will be 23.

Forecast

This a rarity for Australia as it’s predicted to have scattered showers during Friday and Saturday. On Sunday, the weather slightly improves to 18 degrees (64 F) with no expected rain.

Predictions (Feature Race / Sprint Race)

  • Pole – Pepe Marti / Zak O’Sullivan
  • P1 – Pepe Marti /Franco Colapinto
  • P2 – Gregorie Saucy / Caio Collet
  • P3 – Paul Aron / Dino Beganovic

Home hero Tommy Smith has received a three-place grid penalty for the Sprint Race after a ten-second-penalty in Bahrain was converted. Smith received two penalties during that race after being involved in two incidents.
