As the 2023 Formula 1 car launches continue LWOS grades all of the brand-new challengers that will take to the track. Today, we focus on the Williams FW45.

Williams became the third F1 team to reveal their new livery for the upcoming season. After much speculation, Williams announced a new sponsorship deal with Gulf Oil for 2023, but sadly, the FW45 will not feature the classic orange and blue Gulf colours. Instead, the dark blue that Williams have raced with for the last few seasons continues. But praise must be laid towards the designer who came-up with the idea of putting the Duracell battery sponsor on the top of the airbox.

At the release Alex Albon stated,

“I’m really excited to be starting back for another year with the team. The car looks great and will hit the track at Silverstone. The team has worked really hard last year and over the winter to address some key areas in our car, putting in the work to try and maximise what we get out of the car for 2023, so I’m looking forward to seeing what the FW45 can do. We also welcome new partners to the team this year, so it’s great to have them onboard.”

Further praise must be given to the organisers of Williams’ launch, who in their infinite wisdom, decided to ask F1 TV’s Will Buxton to host. Whilst Buxton is not popular with every fan of the sport, his knowledge is evident, particularly compared to the hosts of Red Bull’s launch last week. This, coupled with the idea of actually showing the car first, rather than last – as Red Bull also did –  after a plethora of guff and waffle, was a refreshing change.

With James Vowels, arriving from Mercedes as new Team Principal, was joined by American hotshot Logan Sargeant who was promoted from Williams Academy to race seat alongside Alexander Albon. There is high hopes for the team to progress from what was another tough year in ’22. If the car is as fast as it looks, then we’ll be seeing Williams back in the points on a regular basis once again.

LWOS Rating: 7/10
